Abandoned Island
Saiga Yuji visited the tiny Japanese island of Gunkanjima during 1974 and spent three months taking photos of the mining community. Gunkanjima was the most densely populated island in the world at the time. He went on to document the island changing after the mine closed down and went back to take more photos 10 years later.
It’s a strange trip while you’re looking through the photos and kind of odd how time seems to have stood still there.
