Chairfix
So, here’s the main reason I reposted the link about Mikroworld below…because I thought of it the second I caught a glimpse of Ben Wilson’s Industrial Product Design.
Maybe it’s the Mikroman connection (anyone else see it?), maybe it’s my history of furniture making or maybe it’s the fact that my favourite artist, Pete Fowler, was commissioned to paint one of the designs (6th one down), but I just love these chairs. I think that what I love most about these is how they seem to have been designed to within an inch of their lives…”three chairs are routed out of one sheet of 8×4 15mm Birch faced ply-wood or MDF. 126 flat pack units will fit on a standard euro pallet. The excess wood is its own packaging. Easily assembled in minutes by the end user.” It seems to be ‘ just right’…love it.

Just like the Mikromen, I think I would resent having to dismantle and alter the package as they look perfect just as they are.
Update (24/06/04) - Would have loved The Pete Fowler Chairfix but it’s sold…oh, it was £750!!!
