Rand()%
rand()%’s internetradiobot is an internet radio station streaming generative music 24/7.
I found the link yesterday just before getting in the bath so fired it up to have a listen. What I heard were strange little whistles and bleeps for about 10 minutes before being barraged by loud whooshes, vocal samples, splashes and analogue sweeps. I continued to listen for another 20 minutes and was amazed that the longer I listened I would hear tiny bits of familiar sounding phrases of music…little bits that could have been Bjork’s backing tracks or snippets of Orbital etc.
It got me thinking about the million monkeys with their typewriters (Sir Arthur Eddington’s Infinite Monkey Theorem 1929)…I wonder if there were a million Rand()% contributers and a million years of 24/7 internetradiobot listening whether we would eventually hear the complete works of Future Sound Of London!
Anyway, there quite a bit to read on the process if you’re that way inclined…and who wouldn’t be?!
