The Real Underground Cinema
News doesn’t get much more interesting than this…While on an training exercise in some of the caves and tunnels under the Palais de Chaillot in Paris the police stumbled across an uncharted cavern 18 metres underground and accessed only by a storm drain. The police passed a ‘building site, no access’ sign to find a a room with phone lines, electricity and surveillance equipment set to trigger a recording od dogs barking when intruders pass by. Continuing through that room the police walked into a 400 sq metre amphitheatre cut out of the rock. There was a full size movie screen with a projector and loads of movies (film noir and some more modern thrillers apparently). There was even a small bar and restaurant. When the police returned three days later with an expert the place had been deserted and the phone lines and electric had ben cut. All that was left was a not saying “Do not try to find us.” No one knows who’s been using it or how long it’s been there…how cool is that? [via]
