PanPan

PanPan has to be my favourite new find of the day/week…/maybe even the month. I originally took notice of his 3D styled writing but soon found myself getting loads out of viewing his flowers. The aforementioned pictures were all seen on his Flickr page and he also has a cool Fotolog page. Enjoy.

“The Freesound Project aims to create a huge collaborative database of audio snippets, samples, recordings, bleeps, … released under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus License. The Freesound Project provides new and interesting ways of accessing these samples, allowing users to browse the sounds in new ways using keywords, a “sounds-like” type of browsing and more up and download sounds to and from the database, under the same creative commons license interact with fellow sound-artists!” Looks like a great new resource for electronic musicians to share their sounds. WEEE Man

Built from “washing machines, TVs, microwaves, vacuum cleaners and mobile phones” etc, weighing in at 3.3 tons and measuring 7 metres tall the WEEE Man represents the amount of electrical waste the average UK citizen chucks away in their lifetime. If you want to ponder on this statistic for longer you could do wore than stand in front of it on London’s South Bank. Nut’s but thought provoking. [via]

Postman & Chairman

It doesn’t matter how hard I try to find wacky stuff to out-geek my mate Al. Each time I think I’ve dealt the killer uppercut he comes back at me with some new ultimate fighting championship double whammy combo! For example, I was sure I had the championship all wrapped up with the post about road cone amp the other day…no such luck. He’s just delivered a nice little email checking me with the Postman and the Chairman. Now, if you know anything about Al you’ll have guessed that the Postman is an amp made in the shape of an American postbox and the Chairman is an amp made in the shape of a chair…and you would be right!!! So, I’m bruised and down but not out and I guess it’s you, the readers, that are the real winners of this particular fight…have a good week, till next week grappling fans, du du dududu dudududu dudu (sorry, 1970’s UK wrestling joke!).

Cool Pizza Cutters

Hi-tech pizza cutters by Frankie Flood. His pizza cutters “draw inspiration from chopper motorcycles and attempt to reclaim the mythology and economic usefulness of the American worker as patriarch; translating machine or functional object into flesh and blood. The outlaw as defiant nonconformist, as well as social outcast, parallels being an artist who makes functional objects and being an individual who takes pride in the power of invention and skill.” [via]

LV Serves C&D On Hotel Des Arts

Here’s some proof that the fashion industry are as ridiculous as the music industry when it comes to puerile copyright infringement enforcement. Hotel Des Arts is creating another hotel full of one-off pieces by loads of great artists. Louis Vuitton and his team have taken offence at his logo being used on one of the pieces and served the hotel a cease and desist letter due to “trademark infringement, false designation of origin, unfair competition, and trademark dilution”. What a fool. The good news is that the hotel are fighting it.
