Zenit MF1 Subminiature Spy Camera
Check this funky Zenit MF1 subminiature spy camera. “What we have here is the real deal - a true piece of Sovjet-era intelligence technology that has been preserved for the world of today.” What I like most about it is the little gadget that comes in the box for stripping the 35mm film down to 21mm by hand! Oh, the price…999Euros! Mind you, it does take a nice photo. [via]

Jay, the camera does indeed look pretty interesting, but I’m not sure you’d use it all that often. I’m a photo nutter as you know and I’m not sure I’d be arsed doing all that film stripping etc. Also, I don’t really like the pictures it takes AND those fcukers at the ‘Lomographic Society’ seem to be the only ones selling it so you just know that they’ve massively inflated the price. Still, the history of the piece is pretty interesting. My main man, Alfred Klomp has a bit more info on the camera and a couple of links too: http://cameras.alfredklomp.com/zenitmf1/

July 3rd, 2005 at 10:48 amUPDATE: Alfred’s apparently given up photography, his site has been mothballed, and is no longer current:
“Now it’s 2006, I’m 23 years old, I’m not in high school any more, and my interests have shifted to other things. I’ve all but given up photography, and along with that went my interest for Russian cameras. Though I still warm to the subject, it doesn’t appeal to me in the same magical way as it did five or six years ago, and my collector’s discipline reflects it: I haven’t made a significant purchase in maybe three years. Even longer ago is the time when I actually followed what was going on in the Russian camera scene. I was never well connected or informed to start with, but I get the impression that the scene has grown and matured far beyond what it was in 2000, and here I am, left behind. I’m leaving the field for the people who care to stay current.”
