Google Earth

I’ve been seeing links about Google Earth for a while now and completely ignoring them for some reason? If I had to choose the best and most important piece of software that I’ve ever seen I would choose this (well, I haven’t really give it a great deal of thought but then again I’ve not had much time due to playing on Google Earth!). So what is it? Google Earth is the fancy software version of Google Maps (check the Google Sightseeing post earlier in the week). It’s also a much more graceful ride as it allows you to fluidly zoom in and out as well as rotate and alter the ’tilt’ that you view the world from. Once you’ve found the landmark you’ve been looking for you can add and save a placement pin. This allows you to take fantastic flights from one place to another. You can even overlay road maps. This makes it really easy to find exact places, such as the Hotel that Em and I stayed in when we went to Paris in 2003 and the swimming pool where we lazed around while on holiday the year before (Google earth even makes it easy to work out that those two places are exactly 624.58 miles away from each other!). The only problem is that there aren’t hi-res satellite images for the whole world (yet). All of the USA like it’s done and many of the capitals are done also but there are still loads of interesting places that you just can’t see as much as you would like to. Get downloading, You’ll love it too.
