Camille Allen’s Artist Dolls
Camille Allen’s Artist Dolls are more creepy that cute in my humble opinion but I thought it was worth sharing anyway.

LOL… surfed in… they are not meant to be creepy :)
August 13th, 2005 at 12:35 amBut I guess they remind people of unborn babies which disturbs them — is that it?
I love sculpting though, keep trying to get better… not creepier :)
Smiles,
Camille Allen
Hey, Camille, cheers for stopping by. I guess that’s exactly the reason why I find them a little creepy. However, they’re pretty amazing as well.
August 13th, 2005 at 12:25 pmwhoa! This is kind of uncomfortable. But it does reinforce my Grandma’s favorite adage “If you can’t say something nice don’t…” well, we all know what Grandma says!
Personally, I think they are precious. Not to mention an excellent example of sculpting the human anatomy. I find babies very difficult to sculpt- I keep forgetting their little heads are far bigger in proportion to their bodies than they will be later in life. Mine always seem to turn out with heads too small for their bodies! Now THAT’S creepy! LOL They truly are amazing, Camille!
August 14th, 2005 at 12:19 amPeace,
Kenya
Kenya, I guess I should have said how amazing I think they are as well as saying that I think they’re a little creepy. If I didn’t like them I wouldn’t have posted a link about them at all. The fact that they look so real is what makes them so incredible as well as a little uncomfortable to look at…does that make sense? Anyways, cheers for your comment.
August 14th, 2005 at 11:38 amHi Reevo and Kenya,
Thank you! :) I am glad you like them Kenya -
it IS very hard to get thier proportions down,
they are a bit like aliens compared with adult humans with thier giant heads! :)
Reevo, I am glad they facinated you enough to post them, as they say,
there is no such thing as bad press :)
I usually get “I love them, they are so cute” comments,
so when I did a google search and found some people find them creepy,
that was a bit of an eye opener :)
But at least people don’t ignore them… that would be worse, right? :)

Hi Reevo & Camille-
August 18th, 2005 at 8:41 pm’nuff said, Reevo- I understand completely! And about proportion, Camille- I found a “how-to sculpt human figures” book by Katherine Dewey that may actually have the answer to my poor little tiny-headed babies! Take care all.
Peace,
Kenya
i think that is a beautiful sculpture. it is very creative. i wish u well in the future with your sculptures.
September 13th, 2005 at 4:48 pmCamille, I just love your babies, they are creepy in tha one coworker said they looked like realy stuffed newborns, that’s a compliment. I am trying to re-create newborns and have a tough time following your example. I just love them!
October 9th, 2005 at 12:41 amPerhaps some people are jealous and perhaps theses adorabel babies are too real would be greast for pro-lifers to let people appreciate how precious a baby really is.
October 20th, 2005 at 3:32 amI think they are amazing, and have put myself on the mailing list!
October 20th, 2005 at 11:09 pmYou’re a great artist, Camille.
Thank you very much Kenya, Chasney, Brenda, Sue and Lisa!
October 21st, 2005 at 10:11 pmI appreciate your kind comments!

Camille, I think you are very talented and blessed to be able to capture such realism in your sculptures. I hope that you continue to be successful in your efforts and more people will recognize your work. I was introduced to these by accident; there’s an email going around listing them as Marzipan babies(now that’s creepy), so I decided to do a little research because I couldn’t believe someone would sculpt babies to be eaten (yuck!!) Anyways, truly enjoy your work and I’d like to be added to your mailing list if possible. Good luck and God bless!
October 24th, 2005 at 11:02 pmWow, how cute are they. I want one! You are so talented. Where can I get one from?
November 3rd, 2005 at 12:17 pmthey are brilliant where do i get one from??????????????
November 4th, 2005 at 1:39 pmI found out about Camille & the ‘babies’ through http://www.snopes.com where they were debunking the “Marzipan” hoax.
I just finished looking at her website (google “Camille Allen” and you’ll find her website)…and then googled her name again & found this site, among others.
I have to say that SOME of the babies are ‘creepy’ looking…the ones with hair skeeve me out a bit, I must admit! But even those I look at with awe, because as a mom myself…I see how MUCH these do look like real babies. Camille’s a true artist.
Anyway, seems like her babies are in serious demand, expensive & hard to come by. Good for her! I’d love one, too. Alas…it seems that that will not happen! So I will continue to enjoy them from afar :)
November 10th, 2005 at 7:41 pmHello Camille and all - I think the babies are wonderful - your work is fabulous and I was entranced by all of the babies - I wish I could afford one - so talented - as an artist myself I appreciate your work.
November 18th, 2005 at 8:28 pmBest wishes

February 18th, 2006 at 10:58 pmMy hubby thinks they are a bit creepy, but I LOVE THEM!! I agree with Lynn above; I wish I could afford ONE!!! The other polymer babies on eBay just don’t do the art justice the way Camille’s do. However, we can’t have kids, so saving up for a mini-baby may be a great option. (Plus, they always stay small!) Too bad Camille can’t pump them out faster. I think we’d all line her pockets!
April 12th, 2006 at 11:10 pmhi just been sent these adorable little things via email i must say they look real, maybe too real! anyways i love them

Awesome work! You are a very talented woman. Quick question…. Can you do black babies??
May 19th, 2007 at 9:45 amDear Camille…You are a very talented artist. However, I am having great difficulty getting on your web site to inquire about purchasing one of your life size dolls. Do you have a brochure of some kind you could mail out to me? If so, please email me back and I will give you my home address. Meanwhile…keep up the great work you do and have a wonderful Christmas!
