how do you get there? this is not idle curiosity. I am building a raft from recycled materials and stumbled across several sites about this boat graveyard. I am interested in checking it out for materials and space. any info is appriciated. otherwise I’ll just have to walk the circumfrence of the island! thanks.
January 6th, 2006 at 4:26 amI was looking at Staten Island on Google Earth to try and locate the graveyard, and I think I have done it. These directions will be less than perfect (I am actually located in Edmonton, Canada) but they should get you there.
February 21st, 2006 at 12:38 pmGo to the intersection of Morris Street and Rossville Avenue. Proceed North under the dual overpass (Hwy 440-Pearl Harbor Expressway). At the “Y” in the road bear Left onto an unnamed waterfront road. The graveyard is on your right.
Another way, using roads that appear to be easier to find, would be to go to the intersection of Huguenot Avenue and Woodrow Road. Go North on Huguenot past the golf course (on your left). Cross under the 440. Then just follow your nose. The road will turn nearly 90-degrees to the left onto that same unnamed waterfront road.
Good Luck!! I would love to be there with you.
Shawn, If you have GPS the exact location is:
40-Degrees, 33-Minutes, 21-Seconds North
74-Degrees, 33-minutes, 12-Seconds West
For a visual reference there are two very large white, tall storage tanks about 2-300 yards to the S.W. of the Graveyard.
Be careful. Looks like fun but I’ll bet you could get into a mess of trouble, too.
