Spaceship Junkyard
Here’s an interesting story about the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Russia and how the surrounding area has become a junkyard for booster rockets etc. The Cosmodrome “is the oldest and largest operational space launch facility in the world”. More importantly, it was here that the “first satellite to orbit the Earth was launched, and that Yuri Gagarin, the first man to orbit the Earth, was launched into space in 1961″. Anyway, the Russian government have long since abandoned the site and the space program debris becomes public domain! Make sure you check out Jonas Bendiksen’s photos. [via]
