Dark Days
Again, I’m finding myself 6 years late when it comes to watching the movie Dark Days. Hopefully there’ll be a few of you that haven’t seen it yourselves so I’m not completely wasting my time writing about it. The thing is, I was totally blown away by it so feel compelled to share the news! Dark Days, directed by Marc Singer, is a stunning documentary about the community of people that lived under Penn Station in New York for years. As if the documentary wasn’t amazing enough, the 45 minute making of feature that’s included on the DVD is the most superb DVD extra that I’ve seen too. It’s nothing fancy, it’s just that the way the movie was made was as interesting as the story itself. I don’t want to spoil the fun but let me just say that at one point, Marc Singer ended up completely broke and living with the very same people that he was filming. Filmed in black & white, it’s a gritty and enveloping tale that you wouldn’t believe unless you see it for yourself. Oh, it has a DJ Shadow soundtrack too. There’s more info on Dark Days over at IMDB and is available pretty cheaply over at Amazon UK.
