Jose Parla
Jose Parla’s calligraphy based work really took hold of me when I saw it up close for the first time a while back. Seeing them for real made me appreciate them in a way that I never did before but I still urge you to go check his site if you haven’t already. Hopefully you’ll see what I didn’t straight away and you’ll enjoy them from the get-go. The layers of detail, craft and age are beautiful.
My work is inspired by the anonymous art found in the streets. The art is often in the form of calligraphy or the actions of torn and stripped posters. The inscriptions in my work are used as a form of drawing, and to maintain a record of my observations.
I also just saw this lampshade that reminded me of his work.
