Tomoyuki Sakaguchi’s Suburban Nightscapes

tsaka1

Tomoyuki Sakaguchi’s Suburban Nightscapes are just about the most interesting and attractive photographs I’ve seen in quite a while. These ordinary Japanese suburban images are rendered unusual due to them being photographed under street light conditions with long exposures. What you end up with is a scene that you know isn’t quite right for some reason. They are almost like indoor studio set-ups in fact and it’s quite difficult to work out their scale (are they life-size or just smaller models?) The light isn’t as you would expect it, shadows are unusual (low but strong) and the skies are far too dark for them. You see and extraordinary scene that I can only compare with the light during a solar eclipse. [via]
