Mark Oliver Everett’s Things The Grandchildren Should Know
Mark Oliver Everett, aka “E” of Eels fame, recently wrote his autobiography called Things the Grandchildren Should Know. I picked it up a few days ago and it hasn’t left my side since. It’s an extraordinary story of the first 40 odd years of Everett’s life with all the ups and (mostly) downs that have accompanied it. I’ve been a big fan of E’s music since his early days so reading this book has been a real eye-opener with respect to the man behind the music. An artist in the truest sense. If you’re at all interested in E and/or the Eels then you must read this book. I saw him sum up the book a few weeks ago on TV and he said, “You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll wave you fifteen bucks goodbye”. I can confirm that you will probably laugh and probably cry and it does retail at £15!
