Neil Cowley Trio
My faith in the effect that music can have on the listener (the listener being me) was restored last night. I had the pleasure of going to see Neil Cowley Trio at a small seated venue not for from home. I don’t know what else to say really. I know nothing about jazz but they were extraordinary in every way. As a band they were as tight as I have ever seen and individually they were stunning and all had the room to shine. I’ve never seen a drummer hit cymbals in so many ways…and there were lots of opportunities for him during quite a few solos. It was also a new experience to see a band playing music in such a way, in such a venue, that you could here so many subtlties in the music and the environment (feet shuffling under the piano etc.).
Anyways, check their MySpace too for some more tunes and also this video of Neil talking about the band’s history along with some of their music. They also have a couple of albums out that are both great; their debut, Displaced and Loud…Louder…Stop that was released last week.
